Production Chemist

Salary: starting at £20,000 per annum
Based in: Daventry
Hours: 37.5 per week Monday – Thursday 08:30-17:00, Fridays 08:30 -15:45

Due to our continued growth we are now looking for a career hungry individual to join our team in Daventry.

Endeavour Speciality Chemicals primarily manufacture flavour and fragrance (F&F) chemicals for use in the food industry. Our market is global and the business is consistently growing year on year.

We are looking to add another Production Chemist to our growing team. Duties of the Production Chemist revolve around the small scale manufacture (5L-25L) of F&F chemicals using a wide variety of classical chemical synthesis techniques. Distillation is used as the main method of post-synthesis purification. You will work in one of our two Production laboratories and be involved in routine manufacture, process development and the introduction of new processes.

Essential skills

  • A First degree in chemistry
  • Enthusiasm and a desire to learn
  • Good team player

Desirable skills

  • Experience of small scale chemistry at University or College
  • Some knowledge of safe working practices i.e. COSHH
  • Some knowledge of analytical methods such as GLC
  • Previous experience of working within a chemical manufacturing organisation

Apprentice QC Laboratory Technician – Laboratory Scientist

Salary: £14K per annum

Based in: Daventry

Hours: 37.5 per week Monday – Thursday 08:30-17:00, Fridays 08:30 -15:45

We supply products and services to the flavour & fragrance, pharmaceutical, agrochemical, electronic and life science sectors of the chemical industry. Our markets are global and the business is consistently growing year on year.

Due to our continued growth we are now looking for a career hungry individual to join our team in Daventry.

We are offering a suitable candidate the opportunity to embark on a Level 6 Laboratory Scientist Degree Apprenticeship in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). This is four year programme during which you will be working and earning at Endeavour Speciality Chemicals along with carrying out remote studies with the MMU. Ultimately you will gain a BSc (Hons) Chemical Science and will be able to apply for RSci status from the Royal Society of Chemistry. 20% of your work time at Endeavour will be devoted to your studies.

Whilst working the role involves;

  • Assist in the QC analysis of production raw materials, aroma and non-aroma products, intermediates, sourced product samples, in process testing of distillation fractions.
  • Record results in QC files and on the QCDB, and transfer locations on PMS.
  • Compile QC files and create the associated specifications for new products, intermediates and raw materials.
  • To conduct the calibration, maintenance and performance verification of all analytical equipment on site.
  • To maintain the supply of consumables and reagents in the Quality Control lab
  • To maintain the most appropriate storage conditions and shelf life status for all finished products by recording retest results and regularly reviewing them.
  • Comply with all company procedures and legislative requirements for chemicals handling and plant operation by utilising the correct PPE and other relevant control measures.
  • Be aware of relevant COSHH and Risk assessments for the activities they undertake.
  • Prevent wastage of materials and energy resources by the operation of environmentally sound working practices.

  • You must have gained a minimum of 104 UCAS points at A-level (grades; B,C,C), with one being Chemistry. Equivalent qualifications such as BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma, DDM, in a scientific discipline is also acceptable.

  • Assist in the operation of laboratory production and control equipment on a daily basis against the weekly plan.
  • Liaise with Team Leader to organise work to meet agreed targets.
  • Under guidance by the Team Leader make sure raw material stocks are monitored and any shortfalls reported.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely and legible manner to ensure production and process control records are kept up-to-date.
  • Comply with all sampling and control requirements as specified in the control plan for manufacturing processes under operation.
  • Ensure that all written Process Directions and Standard Operating Procedures are followed and any inconsistencies or unclear instructions are brought to the attention of the Team Leader.
  • Undertake any on-the-job training as required.
  • Operate to good standards of housekeeping at all times.
  • Undertake the safe operation of plant equipment and machinery at all times.
  • Comply with all company procedures and legislative requirements for chemicals handling and plant operation by utilising the correct PPE and other relevant control measures.
  • Be aware of relevant COSHH and Risk assessments for the activities they undertake.
  • Prevent wastage of materials and energy resources by the operation of environmentally sound working practices.
  • Comply with all relevant company procedures for waste minimisation, segregation, treatment and control.
